About the Alliance
From our beginning in 1987, the Alliance of Baptists has been committed to equity in our internal governance -- equity between men and women and laity and clergy.
Four elected officers serve one-year terms, with a second-term option -- a President, Vice President, a Secretary, and the immediate Past President. To date, we have alternated the presidency between women and men. Our slate of officers always includes men and women, clergy and laity.
These officers, along with as many as 40 other members of the Board of Directors, govern the Alliance between annual meetings. During the annual meeting -- held on the weekend following Easter -- all decisions of the Board are subject to review by members present and voting.
At present, the Board is divided into six standing committees. These panels indicate much of what the Alliance agenda is about -- Budget and Development; Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations; Member Services; Missions; Peace and Justice; and Women in the Church.
Elsewhere on our Web site you may read our Covenant and Mission Statement. In the latter, we pledge to "hold ourselves accountable for equity, collegiality, and diversity." It is a promise we take seriously.

The Alliance logoThe three large shapes in the logo symbolize the diversity of individuals and communities of faith who form the Alliance of Baptists. The intersections of the shapes form deeper-hued colors representing the many ways that these diverse groups and individuals partner together in this Alliance to do God’s work of love and justice. The overlapping of all three shapes forms a central image even richer in color symbolizing that the emphasis is not upon the lighter-shaded regions, representing group boundaries. Rather, the focus is the deep-hued center that represents a clear identity, the Alliance’s call to be ever more a Spirit-led people on the move. |
