Communities

Alliance Communities form when members come together around a shared calling or passion. These groups create spaces of belonging, action, and engagement with the Church and the world.

Some communities are active throughout the year, while others only meet during the gathering.

Alliance Communities

Justice for Palestine and Israel (JPI)

This community equips the Alliance to advocate for justice in Palestine and Israel through education, relationship-building, pilgrimage, and public witness. Before the attacks of October 7, the community urged the Alliance to declare Israel an apartheid state. Today, it continues to educate the wider Alliance family about the realities facing Palestinians while supporting humanitarian efforts and opportunities for faithful advocacy.

Creation Justice

Our community is guided by the Alliance’s statement on Environmental Justice, “Earth: A Beloved Community.”
We seek to promote a theology, practice, and proclamation of earth justice through the following means:


1. We will preach, teach, and live a theology of Beloved Community.
2. We will respond pastorally to the fear and grief of climate catastrophe.
3. We will engage in personal and corporate spiritual disciplines in the consumption of resources.
4. We will join our voices as a collective witness in the public arena as an echo of Christ’s call for just relations among all of creation.

Sankofa

Sankofa is a group that connects and resources Black Baptist congregations and faith-affiliated organizations in partnership with the Alliance. Born from the vision of past Alliance Presidents Rev. Michael-Ray Mathews and Rev. Lisa Dunson, Sankofa exists to equip, resource, and support Black Baptist pastors and congregations through prayerful fellowship, strategy, and organizational collaboration. The group meets virtually, typically on the second Friday of every month at 1pm Eastern. Black Baptist clergy and lay leaders interested in joining are encouraged to contact Rev. Alexis Tardy. Please note: While the Alliance values the allyship of white colleagues, this gathering is intended specifically for those of African descent.

Cuba Partnership

Given the Alliance’s commitment to its partnership with the Fraternity of Baptists in Cuba and to improving US policy toward Cuba, this community serves to promote and support the establishment of more partnerships between the churches of both countries. We facilitate communication and collaboration among Alliance churches that have existing sister churches in Cuba. Additionally, the community serves to inform the wider Alliance community about US policy issues affecting Cuba, its people, and US citizens, encouraging active participation when appropriate.

The Alliance has penned a letter to the FIBAC of solidarity and support (at this link), and FIBAC leaders have also shared a letter of solidarity (at this link). Please read these letters and share them with your congregation to encourage them to pray for and advocate for an ending to the Cuban blockade.

Military Chaplains

This community is made up of Alliance-endorsed chaplains and others interested in military chaplaincy. The calling to military chaplaincy is a unique and often complex calling. Serving as a progressive chaplain in the U.S. military carries particular challenges, including navigating questions of moral injury, justice, and faithful presence within institutional structures. This community gives space for reflection and mutual support.
